Celebrating the beauty and significance of the Cuyahoga Valley, the Peninsula Art Academy, in partnership with the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park, presents Plein Air Peninsula 2016. This year’s event will celebrate A Day in the Valley and will again take place in the Village of Peninsula and the surrounding Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

Plein Air Peninsula 2016 will be held June 3, 4 and 5, 2016. Please join us in this artistic event and help celebrate the wonder and beauty of the Cuyahoga Valley. A juried exhibit of many of the works created during the competition will be on display and will be available for sale at the Peninsula Art Academy, 1600 W. Mill Street, Peninsula, Wednesday, June 22 thru Sunday, July 24, 2016. Awards will be presented at the artists’ reception on Saturday, June 25, at 6pm at the Peninsula Art Academy. Select pieces will be further displayed at the Conservancy’s Trail Mix Peninsula, 1600 W. Mill Street or M.D. Garage, 1556 W Boston Mills Rd, Peninsula, OH 44264, August 1 thru Labor Day, September 5, 2016.

Judging and Prizes: Awards will include: Best of show: $500 Second place: $300, Third place: $200, Honorable Mentions, and Winking Lizard People’s Choice award.

We are pleased to welcome back Judge Ron Beahn.
Eligibility: The Competition is open to artists, 18 years of age and over.

Judge Ron Beahn is not affiliated with any event sponsor or gallery.
Employees of the National Park, employees or volunteers for the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park, members of the Peninsula Art Academy and members of the Crooked River Gang at M. D. Garage are welcome to enter.

Format: Original two-dimensional art in any medium other than photography may be created during this event. No three-dimensional or computer generated work will qualify. Canvas/paper plus frame shall be less than or equal to 28” in any one direction. All pieces must be ready for hanging.

Exhibition Venue: Works created during the competition will be juried and those selected will be displayed at the Peninsula Art Academy June 22 thru July 24, 2016. Selected pieces will be further displayed at the Conservancy’s Trail Mix Peninsula store and M.D. Garage, August 1 thru September 5, 2016. All artwork will be for sale with 60% to the artist and 40% to the gallery. Winning and selected artwork will be featured on www.peninsulaartacademy.publishpath.com.

Criteria: Each artist may submit 2 pieces for jurying. The judge shall determine which entries will be exhibited. All paintings exhibited will be judged in the competition and will be eligible for awards. Artwork must be created on site in the true plein air style and may not be worked on off site or generated from reference photos. Styles may range from realism to abstract, and must be in keeping with the impromptu style of plein air. Acclaimed local artist Don Getz will be offering a plein air lecture at the Peninsula Art Academy, Sunday, May 28, 1-4pm., free!

All sales of artwork during the competition (June 3, 4 & 5) must be made through the Peninsula Art Academy.

Application: Applications will be received by mail through June 2nd.
A $35 registration fee will assist in covering the cost of the juror, prizes and logistics. Please make checks payable to Plein Air Peninsula. Credit cards will be accepted.
Please include your Artist statement/bio with the entry form.

Procedure: Artists must check in at Peninsula Art Academy and have their blank surfaces stamped, 1600 West Mill Street, (across from the depot station). Phone 330-657-2248. Artists are encouraged to bring as many canvases/papers as they wish to create during the competition. You may also come to the Peninsula Art Academy Thursday night for stamping and info so you may get an early start on Friday morning.

All canvases/papers must be stamped to be accepted for judging.

Refer to designated site map you receive at registration for painting locations. Site map locations have obtained prior owner permission, please only paint at these permitted locations. Strict adherence to site owners’ rules is required. Thank you.

Submission: Artists may deliver up to 2 completed works to be juried. Finished works must be framed, with picture hanging wire attached. Gallery wrap is discouraged. Pick Up of Art: Pick up of artwork from the Peninsula Art Academy will be no later than July 31, 2016 at 5pm. Pick up of artwork from Trail Mix Peninsula and M.D. Garage will be no later than September 12, 2016 at 5pm. Other arrangements may be made by calling the gallery. Items not picked up reasonably or without prior arrangement become the property of the Peninsula Art Academy and may be sold or donated.

Payment must be received before your canvases/paper will be stamped, and may be made with cash, check (preferred) or by major credit card. All checks should be made out to the Plein Air Peninsula. Registrations during event will be accepted.

The Peninsula Art Academy, the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park advise artists to insure their work. While all work will be handled with the utmost care, the above-mentioned entities do not assume responsibility for loss or damage of submitted works from any cause whatsoever. The undersigned artist agrees to the terms of the exhibit and the waiver of responsibility. All artwork will be for sale with 60% to the artist and 40% to the Gallery in which it is being displayed.
