Return to the Heart of the Holidays this year as we welcome you to
Christmas in Peninsula – 2017!

December 2nd – Reindeer Day
Holiday festivities will continue throughout the village. Santa’s live reindeer will be on the green next to Bronson Church from 1:00-4:00pm, sponsored by Yellow Creek Trading Company, Ohio Hardwood Furniture, Friends of the Peninsula Library, and Chanah & Lee Spencer. Make sure children see the educational reindeer display and pick up the recipe for magical reindeer snacks for Christmas Eve. Join in the reindeer fun by purchasing red Rudolph noses or antlers, with proceeds going to the Peninsula Chamber for special events.

Santa himself will welcome children at Trail Mix – Peninsula from 1:00 to 3:00 on Saturdays and Sundays through December 17. His elves will help children make special gifts. Letters to Santa can be mailed “special delivery” at mailboxes outside of Trail Mix and The Brown Rabbit. Make sure to drop off by Dec. 20th and include a return address so Santa can write back!

• Yellow Creek Trading Company will have real lambs to pet from Spicy Lamb Farm! Wool blankets and throws made of the farm’s wool will be for sale in the shop.

• The Brown Rabbit – Cookies will be served as you shop for Christmas uniques and antiques.

• The Bronson Church will host a special exhibit! The International Gingerbread Society shares part of its extensive collection of vintage and contemporary gingerbread men and gingerbread house collectibles, including cookie jars, cookie cutters, jewelry, hand-blown glass ornaments and other holiday decorations. The IGS is dedicated to the preservation of the history of ginger as a spice and its use in culinary construction, cooking, and baking. The collection has been displayed in past years at Stan Hywet, the Cleveland Botanical Garden, and at the GAR Hall. The curator of the collection, Jill Sell, will be there to present it from 12:00-4:00pm. Free admission!

• River Light Gallery – Shop for locally created gifts. Help us to support the arts.

• Log Cabin Gallery – Shop for locally crafted gifts at the Cabin. Meet Jane Helen Cooper, the author of the children’s book, Willie and the Tomato Garden. Purchase a book and she will sign it for you!

• Visit the Peninsula Art Academy for a special holiday exhibit that celebrates art in all of its forms. The Holiday Show showcases artisan-crafted jewelry, fiber arts, painting, photography, ceramics, glass and paper arts that celebrate the magic and beauty of the season or embrace the joy of the holidays.

• Elements Gallery will serve light refreshments as shoppers browse through the artwork of over 45 regional crafts people.

• Terry Lumber will serve free popcorn from its vintage popcorn machine. Favorite gift suggestions include John Deere toys and Lodge cast iron cookware.

• At the Peninsula United Methodist Church, old-fashioned concerts and sing-alongs will be held at 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00, featuring a merry cast of musicians, elves and the toy soldier. Free admission.

• The Yum Yum Sweet Shop offers an extensive candy selection, Pav’s ice cream, popcorn, and specialty soft drinks. Great for stocking stuffers!

• Boston Township Hall at 1775 Main St. will be hosting a Community Christmas Bazaar from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Handmade, repurposed and vintage items from over 45 vendors will be featured. Contact information [email protected] or 330-657-2439.

• Come to the Peninsula Library to write a letter to Santa which we will mail Special North Pole Express. 12:00-4:00pm.

• Heritage Tree Farm & Greenery Shop will be open from 9:00am to 7:00pm.

• Hale Farm Holiday Lantern Tours will be held on Dec. 2, 3, 8, 9, 15, 16, 17, 19-23. Take a charming lantern-lit tour of the village and visit historic homes decorated for the season. Experience the holiday season as celebrated in the 19th century Western Reserve. Reservations required. Call 330-666-3711, ext.172.

• Hale Farm’s MarketPlace will have special holiday hours. They will feature one of a kind handcrafted at Hale products along with other Ohio and national brands. Open Dec. 2-3, 8-9, 15-17, 19-23 from 5:00-9:00pm.

• Countryside Conservancy will hold their Winter Farmers’ Market at Old Trail School from 9:00am-12:00pm.

December 9th – Santa’s Elves Come to the Village
Merchants will sponsor a scavenger hunt for vintage elves hidden in businesses throughout the village. Children can pick up the list of elf locations to start their hunt at Yellow Creek Trading Company before hunting for the elves. All participants who complete the hunt will receive a special prize. Children and parents are encouraged to wear their own special elf attire.

• Breakfast with Santa at Fisher’s Cafe & Pub on Saturday, December 9th from 8am-12pm! No reservations accepted.

• Children can visit with Mrs. Claus at the G.A.R. Hall from 12:00 to 3:00pm. She will help them decorate their own gingerbread men. Children can also have their faces painted with a holiday motif and receive a balloon sculpture from Santa’s elves!

• Yellow Creek Trading Co. – The Vintage Elf Scavenger Hunt from 11:00-4:00 will begin and end at Yellow Creek. All children who complete the hunt will get a prize. Shoppers will receive a free ornament with a $10 purchase.

• Peninsula Library – Coloring books are not just for kids! Discover the therapeutic benefits of coloring. During this drop-in adult coloring program you will relax, reduce stress, and leave feeling restored. Coloring books and supplies will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own materials. This is for ages 18(+).

• Peninsula Library – Ever wonder if you were an elf, what your elf name would be? Stop by the library to find out by using our Magical Elf Name Chart. For All Ages from 10:00am-4:00pm.

• G.A.R. Hall “Voices in the Valley” – The Ohio City Singers venture down to Peninsula for a night of holiday music and fun! 8:00 p.m. $20 pre-sale, $25 day of show.

December 16th – The Grinch is Back!
The Illusion Factory will be presenting “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” at the G.A.R. Hall at 11:00am. The cost will be $5 per person. Tickets must be purchased in advance at here . Sponsors for the production are The Peninsula Foundation, the Peninsula Grinch, the Peninsula Area Chamber of Commerce, and Chanah & Lee Spencer.

Children can visit the Grinch and get a sweet treat from 1:00-3:00pm at Yellow Creek Trading Company. They can help the Grinch improve his reputation by donating socks for needy men and women for the Akron Snow Angels Organization. (Donations accepted throughout the Village throughout the month of December). After his visit to Yellow Creek, the Grinch will wander through the Village for photo opportunities. Visitors can buy raffle tickets to support Christmas in Peninsula and in the hope of winning the Grinch’s bountiful basket of goodies from Peninsula businesses.

• Visit with Frosty the Snowman from 1:00 to 2:00 at The Log Cabin Gallery. He’ll be happy to pose for a photo with you. Add to our basket by donating a pair of warm adult socks, scarves, hats, or gloves to the Akron Snow Angels. Don’t forget to shop for locally crafted, unique gifts during the final weekend of the Let It Snow Winter Exhibit at The Log Cabin Gallery.

December 23rd – Stocking Stuffer Saturday
We want to invite shoppers to come to Peninsula’s shops, galleries, and restaurants to find last minute gifts!

In the spirit of the holidays, businesses will be collecting warm adult socks, scarves, hats and gloves throughout the Village during the month of December for distribution by the Akron Snow Angels. They help others beyond just the homeless!
